Week1A: Blog Theme

I have a strong preference for simple and concise, yet aesthetically pleasing web designs, so it would only make sense that my personal blog would match my tastes. Knowing that this blog will be primarily written entries, I didn't pay any mind to themes with photography as their focus. I find having more than one column hard to read so multiple themes were eliminated.

At first I originally chose Contempo for my blog's theme as it seemingly fit my specifications. However after about an hour of testing the gadgets and settings, the limited space for a background image irked me so I decided to find a different one. In the end I have chosen to go with Picture Window, as it allows much more flexibility design wise.

First I re-used the same color palette I had for Contempo, which was taken from the gradient I used as the background, and removed several widgets that I don't think I will use (for the time being anyways). Despite wanting as few widgets as possible, I did have to split my sidebar into two columns for organization. Because this is my first post I can't really see how it actually looks, since I have no archive of posts, pages, or labels as I write this.

I look forward to refining the look to my blog as I add more posts and pages to it. Right now the only issue I have with the theme is I cannot change the footer backgrounds color.

  1. You know, I actually really like your theme. At first I was taken aback by the simplicity but after a few seconds it grew on me. It gives me old school computer vibes. I'm 33 so I remember the days of playing Oregon Trail on those bulky IBM computers. Your theme reminds me ( in the best way possible) of the menu screen of an old computer game.
